International Women’s Day event raises £1,150 for Women Refugees

“The day was a great success! We ran out of t-shirts within 30 minutes,” stated Amina Fiaz. Octopus’s International Women’s Day (IWD) t-shirt give-away and fundraiser exceeded expectations. Organised by Amina and Chloe Vaughan, the event aimed to create awareness of IWD and raise money for Women for Refugee Women through the sale of purple ribbons.

In total, £1,156.46 was donated in aid of Women for Refugee Women (including a gracious £500 matching fund from Octopus Giving) — that’s enough to support over 20 women seeking asylum in the UK with advice on immigration, housing and welfare issues.

Those lucky enough to get their hands on a free IWD t-shirt customised them with inspirational quotes from great women leaders and intellectuals. After the t-shirts ran out, the quotes continued to pour forth onto the walls of the 8th floor hub.
